About

VAULT is a code-cracking puzzle game for iPhone and Android. Each level is a numeric vault combination of unique digits 0–9 — crack it before the alarm trips (you get 10 attempts, scaling up to 15 on the biggest vaults). Earn virtual gold (oz), unlock harder vaults, duel rivals online or team up for a Group Heist, and climb the global leaderboard.

How to play

Single-player heists

Ten levels of increasing difficulty, from a 1-digit piggy bank (PETTY THIEF) up to a 10-digit Federal Reserve vault (KINGPIN). After each guess you see feedback dots:

  • Green dot — right digit, right slot.
  • Gold dot — right digit, wrong slot.
  • Empty dot — that digit isn’t in the combo.

Crack a vault within your attempts to earn oz — you get 10 attempts on the smaller vaults, scaling up to 15 on the 10-digit KINGPIN. First crack of a level pays full price; each replay pays one less, dropping to zero once mastered.

Duel mode

Tap the Duel mode card on the home screen to face a rival. Five sub-modes:

  • vs. Computer — practice against a bot in real time. No oz on the line.
  • Pass & play — two players, one device, take turns.
  • Round-by-round online — alternating turns with a real opponent, unlimited guesses. Most precise wins.
  • Sprint online — both players guess simultaneously, 10 guesses each. Fastest crack wins.
  • Group Heist online — 2–4 players race to crack one shared code, taking turns in a random order. Every guess and its feedback is shown to all players; the first to crack it wins.

Online modes pay +5 oz to the winner and deduct −2 oz from each other player (balance never drops below zero).

Memory-aid tags

Press and hold any digit on the keypad to tag it green (“in the code”), red (“not in the code”), grey (“probably not”), or yellow (default / unknown). Tags are visual reminders only — they never change the game logic.

Online play & chat

Online play is optional on both platforms and requires you to be at least 13 years old (it involves communication with strangers). An optional text chat appears during each duel; to leave a duel at any time, tap Forfeit (you’ll lose 2 oz).

On iPhone

Online play uses Apple Game Center for matchmaking, real-time data, and the global oz leaderboard. You need an Apple ID with Game Center enabled (free, comes with every Apple ID) — nothing else to set up. VAULT shows your Game Center nickname to other players, so there’s no separate name to choose in the app. Chat messages travel device-to-device over Game Center’s data channel — they are not stored on any server. To block an abusive player, use iOS Settings → Game Center → Restrict Multiplayer / Friends.

On Android

Online play uses Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) for sign-in, matchmaking, real-time data, and the global oz leaderboard. Tap Sign in with Google when you open an online mode (Online Duel, Group Heist) or the Ranking screen; while signed out the game stays fully single-player and offline-duel only, and no account data leaves your device. Other players see the name on your Google account. Chat messages are relayed through Cloud Firestore for the duration of the match. If another player is abusive, forfeit the duel and email us their display name and the approximate time — we can suspend their online access. You can permanently delete your online data (leaderboard entry and sign-in account) at any time from About → Delete my online data.

Frequently asked

Is the “oz” currency real money?
No. “oz” is virtual gold inside the game. It has no real-world monetary value and cannot be exchanged for money, goods, or services. It exists only on your device.
I lost my progress after deleting the app. Can you restore it?
Single-player progress (oz balance, unlocked levels) is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes it, and we have no backup. Your leaderboard entry survives, however: on iPhone it is kept by Apple (Game Center); on Android it is kept in our Firebase leaderboard under the Google account you signed in with.
What name do other players see?
On iPhone: your Apple Game Center nickname — to change it, update your nickname in iOS Settings → Game Center. On Android: the name on the Google account you signed in with — change it in your Google account settings, or sign in with a different account. VAULT has no separate name field of its own.
I keep getting matched against bots / no one shows up.
Matchmaking pairs you with whoever is waiting at that moment (via Game Center on iPhone, via Firebase on Android). If no real opponent is available within ~30 seconds, the match attempt may time out. Try again at a different time of day, and check that you’re online and signed in — Game Center in iOS Settings on iPhone, or Sign in with Google on the Online Duel screen on Android.
Someone was abusive in chat. What can I do?
Tap Forfeit to leave the duel immediately. On iPhone, block the offending player in iOS Settings → Game Center and report them through Apple’s tools; you can also email us their Game Center alias and the approximate date/time and we will pass severe reports to Apple. On Android, email us the player’s display name and the approximate date/time — we can suspend their access to online play.
Why is the Ranking screen empty?
The global Top 10 leaderboard fills in as players log wins. If it’s empty, make sure you’re signed in — to Game Center (iOS Settings → Game Center) on iPhone, or with your Google account on Android. While signed out you won’t appear and the Ranking screen stays empty. Newly earned scores can take a short while to show.
How do I delete my online data? (Android)
Open VAULT → tap the “ⓘ” info icon → Delete my online data. This removes your leaderboard entry and deletes your sign-in account from our Firebase project. Single-player progress on the device is not affected. On iPhone there is nothing to delete on our side — Apple holds your Game Center data under your Apple ID.
Are there any ads or in-app purchases?
No. VAULT contains no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no in-app purchases. The game is fully free.
